Strong presence for Swiss film and television productions in Biarritz

At the 18th International Festival of Audiovisual Program (FIPA), taking place in Biarritz, France, from January 18-23, six Swiss films will be presented as part of the official competition. The feature film “Love Express” by Elena Hazanov (Production: Navarro Film Geneva) will be shown in the “Fiction Films” program. Concurrently, 28 additional productions will be featured at the television fair FIPATEL.
Two reports, originally produced for the French and Italian-speaking section of Swiss television, will be shown in the “Great reportages and current affairs” program: In their film “Guerriers à louer“ (Production: TSR), Michel Heiniger and Jean-Philippe Ceppi track mercenaries who play an increasing role in armed conflicts and operate outside of international laws. Albanian author and director Elvira Dones, who lives in Switzerland, along with cinematographer Fulvio Mariani, examine archaic societal structures of north-Albanian mountain regions in their film “Inchiodato” (Production: TSR). The film “Maria Bethânia, Music is Perfume” by Georges Gachot premieres in Biarritz as part of the “Performing Arts” program. After “Martha Argerich – Evening Talk”, this represents yet another successful portrayal of an eminent member of the Latin American music scene. It will also be shown in Swiss movie theatres. In the short film competition, “Cloniazone Inc.,” a short horror movie by Locarno director Paolo Vandoni along with the Zurich School of Art and Design (HGKZ) thesis film “Loose Contact” by Ralph Etter will be featured.
Among the 28 Swiss productions presented to the numerous television buyers are documentary films such as “Bruno Ganz – Actor” by Norbert Wiedmer, “Grock – King of Clowns” by Felice Zenoni (Production: Mesch & Ugge), “Monte Grande – What is Life?” by Franz Reichle (Production: T&C Film), and “Voyage contre la faim” (Journey against hunger) by Matthias von Gunten. In their role as festival partner, SWISS FILMS invited FIPA director Pierre-Henri Deleau to Zurich for a three-day showing of the Swiss productions. SWISS FILMS representative Francine Brücher, who is responsible for international promotion, will accompany the directors and the films featured in Biarritz from January 18 – 23.
