Short films from Switzerland will be honoured at the 16th International Short Film Festival in Drama, Greece (September 20-25). Twenty-seven Swiss short film productions will be showcased in four different programmes under the title of “Tribute to Swiss cinema – Switzerland yesterday and today.” Three other Swiss film productions will be screened in Drama, two of which are in the international competition.

The retrospective encompasses a selection of short fiction, animation and documentary films produced over the course of the past twelve years. "Swiss Films today and yesterday" presents nine films, including the film "Pastry, Pain and Politics" (1998) which won Stina Werenfels the Swiss Film Prize in 1999. Screened in the "La Suisse francophone" programme is the award-winning film "La délogeuse" (Golden Leopard at the Festival Locarno 2008) by Julien Rouyet, as well as five other film productions by francophone directors. The "Dark Side of Switzerland" programme takes a closer look at the other side of Switzerland and includes the multi-award-winning documentary short film "Wir sind dir true" by Michael Koch (2005). The fourth homage honours five works produced at the Zurich University of the Arts, including "Joshua" (2002) by Andreas Müller. Director and producer Julien Rouyet and Andreas Müller will accompany the Swiss film programme in Drama. Participants are invited to a "short" drink, organised in collaboration with the Swiss embassy in Athens, on September 23.

Basil Da Cunha's short fiction film "À côté" and the French-Swiss coproduction "Allons-y! Alonzo!" by French director Camille Moulin-Dupré are in the running for the festival's Grand Prize and for the Prix EFA (European Film Academy), the winner of which is automatically nominated for a European Film Award. In addition, the science fiction production "Ad Aeternum" by Laurent Kempf will be screened in a special programme comprised of fantastic films.

The film festival in Drama was founded in 1978 and originally reserved for Greek productions; the international competition was introduced in 1995. With its special screenings, the festival will present a total of some 250 short film productions.
