«Lenz» shown in Leeds before its theatrical release in Germany

At the 20th Leeds International Film Festival, taking place from November 2 – 12, 2006, «Lenz» by Thomas Imbach and «Ryna» by Ruxandra Zenide (Production: Pacific Films; Navarro Films, Geneva), are in the running for the «Golden Owl» in the international competition. With this event, «Ryna» continues its world festival tour, while after its premiere in Great Britain, «Lenz» will be shown in German cinemas starting November 30, 2006, (Distribution: Freunde der Deutschen Kinemathek). The film’s theatrical release in Austria is also planned for February, 2007 (Distribution: Filmladen), and it has been released on DVD in Switzerland since mid-October.
Several additional successful Swiss films are participating in the Leeds festival, which attracts a large general audience as well as representatives from the film business: In its «Cinema versa» series, the documentary films «Exit, le droit de mourir/Exit – The Right to Die» by Fernand Melgar, and «A Crude Awakening – The Oil Crash» by Basil Gelpke and Ray McCormack will be presented.
The co-production «Die grosse Stille» (The great silence) by Philip Gröning (Co-production: Ventura Films, Meride), and «L’argent/Money» by Robert Bresson (Co-production: Vega Film, Zurich) will be shown in the «Devotional Cinema» section of the festival.
For the international short film program, «Beckenrand/Poolside» by Michael Koch was invited to participate, which is the director’s first long feature film and whose previous production «Wir sind Dir true» (We will be faithful to you) has had considerable success in the festival circuit.
