03.05.2006

The 3rd International Documentary Film Festival “Documenta Madrid”, taking place from May 5-14, 2006, presents five Swiss films in its program. In the competition section “Documentary Reporting”, the film “Gambit” by Sabine Gisiger (Production: Dschoint Ventschr Filmproduktion, Zurich) will be in the running for the main award with a prize sum of 10,000 Euro. The short documentary film “Wir sind dir treu” (We are faithful to you) will be competing for the short film award with a prize sum of 5,000 Euro.
Three additional films will screen in the “Informative Section”: “La nébuleuse du cœur/The Heart’s Nebula” by Jacqueline Veuve (PCT Cinéma Télévision, Martigny) in the “Contemporary French-language Documentary Films” category, “Hedy Lamarr” by Donatello and Fosco Dubini, and by Barbara Obermayer in the “Documenta Film” category, and “Melodias” by François Bovy (Production: Les films de la dernière heure, Lausanne) in the “Documenta Other Festivals” section.

“Gambit”, which was recently released on DVD, has already received an award for Best Documentary Film at the Bolzano Film Days in April, 2006. The film is also currently showing at the Munich Documentary Film Festival. “Wir sind dir true” (We are faithful to you) was invited to Clermont-Ferrand, France, and the IndieLisboa festival in Lisboa, Portugal. It is presently featured at the Short Film Festival in Schwerin, Germany, and will be presented during the Swiss Day at Cannes (May 23rd, 2006).

The film about the faded Hollywood star “Hedy Lamarr”, along with “La nébuleuse du cœur/The Heart’s Nebula”, was invited to the Documentary Film Festival “Contact” in Kiev, Ukraine, last April, and will be shown in Krakow, Poland, at the end of May. In addition, “Melodias” was recently awarded two prizes (Best Film and Best Director) at Pamplona, Spain.

This young festival, organized by the city of Madrid, aims to strengthen the visibility of documentary films within cinema and is a venue for both filmmakers and the audience.
