Films by Léa Pool, Anna Luif and other women directors in Israel

The “International Women’s Film Festival” in Rehovot (Israel), taking place from September 6-10, 2005, presents the work of Lea Pool along with recent productions of flourishing Swiss women directors. Up-and-coming talents such as Anna Luif, Bettina Oberli, and Ursula Meier have been invited along with their work, in addition to Gertrud Pinkus who shows her classic “Anna Göldin, the Last Witch,” a top ten box office hit when it was first released.
The “Swiss Focus” will open on September 8th with Anna Luif’s films
“Summertime” and “Little Girl Blue” and a reception “Women in the Picture – Switzerland”. In the program are also “Strong Shoulders” by Ursula Meier, “North Wind” by Bettina Oberli, “Bien dégagé derrière les oreilles” by Anne Deluz, the documentary film “Feline Masquerade” by Veronika Minder, and the short films “Hi Maya” by Claudia Lorenz, “Busenfreundinnen” (Bosom pals) by Gabriele Schärer, “Alle meine Mütter” (All my mothers) by Meret N. Burger, and “Der Komplex” by Fabienne Boesch. The overview of the contemporary work of Swiss women directors is augmented by the historic movie “Anna Göldin, the Last Witch“ (1991) by Gertrud Pinkus and Stephan Portmann.
In the retrospective dedicated to Léa Pool, the movies “Lost and Delirious” (2001), “Set Me Free” (1999, 2000 Swiss Film Prize), “La demoiselle sauvage”(Young wild woman, 1991), “La femme de l'hôtel” (The woman from the hotel, 1984) and the short film “Rispondetemi” (1991). Pool’s protagonists are often women in transition, with her filmmaking oscillating between a dream world and a strong grasp of reality.
The festival, with the support of SWISS FILMS, introduces the Israeli audience to the award-winning work of Lea Pool. Viewers will get to know the generational work of this director along with that of a new generation of women filmmakers.
