26.06.2007
At the 42nd Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, taking place in Karlovy Vary (Czech Republic) from June 29 to July 7, 2007, Switzerland will be represented with three fiction films. Renowned Geneva actor Jean-Luc Bideau is a member of the festival’s Grand Jury. The film “My Brother Is Getting Married” by Jean-Stéphane Bron (Production: Box Productions, Lausanne) - with Jean-Luc Bideau in the lead role for which he received the 2007 Swiss Film Prize - will be shown in the “Another View” program. In the “Variety Critic’s Choice” series, “Pas douce” by Jeanne Waltz (Production: Thelma Film, Zurich) will be presented. The German-Swiss co-production “Madonnas” by Maria Speth (Co-production: Cineworx, Basel) will be part of the “Forum of Independents” program.
For the 10th time, film critics of the Hollywood magazine “Variety” will be selecting their 10 favorite European movies. Chief editor Steven Gaydos along with representatives of the European Film Promotion Agency (EFP) will present this year’s “Top Ten” at Karlovy Vary. With “Pas douce”, a Swiss film has made the list for the fourth time. In the past, “Aime ton père” by Jacob Berg was selected in 2003, while “Little Girl Blue” by Anna Luif, and “KussKuss” by Sören Senn made the selection in 2004 and 2006, respectively.
Beat Glur, cultural editor of the SDA Swiss News Agency and president of the Swiss Association of Film Journalists, will represent Switzerland as a member in the FIPRESCI jury. The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival counts among twelve film festivals credited by the International Federation of Film Producers Association (FIAPF) as first-rank.
