The 24th International Festival of Films on Art, taking place from March 9-19, 2006, in Montreal, Canada, is presenting films along the entire spectrum of artistic pursuits and has scheduled four Swiss films in this year’s program. In the international competition, “Creative Crossroads”, with 41 films from 16 countries and with nine awards to be bestowed, the feature documentary film “Building the Gherkin” by Mirjam von Arx (Production: Ican Films, Zurich) and the 40-minute documentary film “Carlo Maderno: l’emergenza del barocco” by Adriano Kestenholz (Production: Aleph Films, Castel S. Pietro) will be shown. Mirjam von Arx and Adriano Kestenholz will be in attendance in Montreal and present their films in person.
The biographical films “The Man of Black and White: Adrian Frutiger” by Christine Kopp (Production: Christoph Frutiger, Interlaken) and “Sam Gabai. Presenze” by Villi Hermann (Production: Imago Film, Lugano) will be presented in the “Trajectories” section.

Artistic individuals are the focus of the four Swiss documentary productions in this year’s festival program. The films are following the construction of a building by star architect Norman Foster, illuminating baroque architecture of the 16/17th century by Carlo Maderno, and portraying the Ticino painter Samuel Gabai and also text designer Adrian Frutiger, who is one of the most important members of his trade in Switzerland.

“Building the Gherkin” will be released in German movie theatres in May, after its presentation at the 6th Architectural Film Days at the Film Museum Munich in late April.
