Four Swiss films at Filmfest München
24.06.2009
Three Swiss films will be screened in the International Programme at the 27th Filmfest München (June 26-July 4, 2009). The festival in the Bavarian state capital is the second largest in Germany, following the Berlinale. The three Swiss films include: “Get Ready To Rocksteady” by Stascha Bader; “Un autre homme” by Lionel Baier; and “No More Smoke Signals” by Fanny Bräuning. This year’s International Programme, called “Exotic Stopovers”, will present films from more than 30 countries from all over the world.
The two films “Un autre homme” (Saga Production, Lausanne) and “No More Smoke Signals” (Distant Light Filmproduktion, Zurich) began their festival careers one year ago at the International Locarno Film Festival. The fiction film “Un autre homme” has been screened at festivals in Pusan, Warsaw, Rotterdam, Buenos Aires, Guadalajara, Gothenburg and San Jose, among others. And the film “No More Smoke Signals”, which won the Swiss Film Prize for “Best Documentary Film” and numerous other awards, has already been screened in Montreal, Créteil, Cracow and Brooklyn.
The documentary film “Get Ready To Rocksteady” (HesseGreutert Film) will celebrate ist international premiere at the Filmfest München. In his film, Stascha Bader joins the founders of reggae 40 years later in their original studio in Kingston, where they record their former hits and tell their story.
The 13-minute animation film “Radostki” by Magdalena Osinska, which will be screened at the Kinderfilmfest (children’s festival), rounds off the Swiss presence in Munich. Osinska’s film has already been screened at festivals in Cairo, Stuttgart and Annecy.
The Filmfest München will present more than 200 films on 15 screens, most of which are German premieres, and many of which are even world premieres. The festival, directed by Andreas Ströhl, has no competition, but rather “concentrates on films that walk the line between art-house fare and mainstream productions.”
