The 4-minute film “Ersatz” by Swiss artist Elodie Pong was honoured with the Zonta Prize, endowed with EUR 1,000, at the 58th International Short Film Festival in Oberhausen (April 26-May 1, 2012). The festival is the oldest and most renowned in Germany and devoted exclusively to the genre of short film. Four Swiss film productions will be screened at this year’s festival.

The jury of the International Competition delivered the following statement with the award for the film “Ersatz”: “Lovers’ banter – the almost Dadaist linguistic play on the word “Ersatz” suddenly becomes serious. Ersatz-love must look for an Ersatz-flat. For this equally unusual and funny experimental set-up, the Zonta Prize goes to Elodie Pong and her film 'Ersatz'.”

Further films from Switzerland screened at the festival in the Ruhr region included: the short fiction film “Einspruch VI” by Rolando Colla; the Swiss-German coproduction “Ganoven” by Marina Klauser and Pia Hellenthal; and Cécile Brun’s animation film “Zmitzt drin,” produced at the Lucerne School of Art and Design (HSLU).
