Cannes 2025
Swiss talent in the spotlight, documentary film in ACID Cannes
06.05.2025
The Swiss coproduction NUIT OBSCURE – “AIN'T I A CHILD?” will be screened in the ACID Cannes section. Ella Rumpf has a major role in the French film DES PREUVES D'AMOUR, and producer Thomas Reichlin has been selected for Producers on the Move, the exclusive talent programme organised by European Film Promotion. Furthermore, several producers and directors from Switzerland are taking part in industry programmes in Cannes.
The documentary NUIT OBSCURE – “AIN'T I A CHILD?” by French director Sylvain George is being screened in the ACID Cannes section. Only nine films comprise this prestigious selection made by the Association of Independent Film Directors.
The French-Swiss coproduction is the third part of George’s trilogy on young migrants between North Africa and Europe. Geneva-based Alina films (Eugenia Mumenthaler, David Epiney) has coproduced all three films. NUIT OBSCURE – “AIN'T I A CHILD?” celebrated its world premiere in the International Competition at Visions du Réel in Nyon and was honoured with the Interreligious Award.
Ella Rumpf on the Croisette
Swiss actress Ella Rumpf stars in the lead role of the French feature film DES PREUVES D'AMOUR (LOVE LETTERS) by Alice Douard. The film will be presented as a Special Screening in the independent parallel section Semaine de la Critique. Ella Rumpf has already made several prominent appearances in Cannes, including celebrated successes with GRAVE by Julie Ducournau (2017) and LE THÉORÈME DE MARGUERITE (2023), for which she was honoured with a César last year.
Producer on the Move
Every year, the European Film Promotion (EFP) selects 20 up-and-coming European producers for its talent programme Producers on the Move in Cannes. At the recommendation of SWISS FILMS, Swiss producer Thomas Reichlin at Alva Film is taking part this year. His productions include the feature film BLACKBIRD BLACKBIRD BLACKBERRY, which celebrated its premiere in Cannes in 2023.

Support for short films
Thanks to the support of SWISS FILMS, Ketsia Stocker, producer at Akka Films in Geneva, is participating in the New Producers Room as part of the short film platform SFC | Rendez-vous Industry. This networking programme enables 10 promising short film producers to discuss their projects and establish international contacts for coproductions.
The Focus Script talent programme is also part of SFC | Rendez-vous Industry, aiming to support film students in developing their first professional short film production. Filmmaker Arthur Prader from HEAD – Genève has been selected with his Romansh-language project L'ORMA DAL CHATSCHADER (THE HUNTER'S SOUL). The director and screenwriter Wero Rodowicz is taking part in the T-Port workshop and mentoring program in the frame of the SFC.
The Immersive Market, a new initiative launched by the Marché du Film, will celebrate its premiere. Gilles Jobin and Susana Panadés Diaz are part of the Curators Network and will participate in seven days of pitching sessions, workshops and exclusive networking events.
At Marché du Film’s “Shoot the Book!” event, publishers will present selected books that are suitable for film adaptation. With the support of Pro Helvetia, the publishing house Kein & Aber will present the novel “Charly Brom’s Dilemma” by Swiss author Lukas Linder.
SWISS FILMS at the Marché du Film
The promotion agency SWISS FILMS will represent Swiss filmmaking at the Swiss Pavillon in the film market’s Village international and invite international guests to the Soirée Suisse for networking with the Swiss film industry.
Additionally, SWISS FILMS is organising two coproduction meetings in collaboration with SODEC (Société de développement des entreprises culturelles) Québec and Cinema do Brasil, this year’s country of honour at Marché du Film in the Swiss Pavillon. Producers will have the exclusive opportunity to discuss future projects with Canada and Brazil in one-to-one meetings.
Numerous Swiss productions will be presented to industry professionals at screenings at the Cannes film market.
