Zurich Film Festival 2009: red carpet for Swiss films

The world premieres of two Swiss film productions – “Der Fürsorger” by Lutz Konermann and “Space Tourists” by Christian Frei – are placed in the limelight of the 5th Zurich Film Festival (September 24-October 4, 2009). Moreover, the festival opens with another world premiere: the film adaptation of Martin Suter’s novel “Lila, Lila”, directed by Alain Gsponer. Other Swiss gems will be screened in a number of festival sections.
A total of three fiction films will participate in the German Language Film Competition: “Der Fürsorger” (production: Fama Film, Zurich) – starring Roeland Wiesnekker in the leading role; Markus Welter’s fiction film debut with “Im Sog der Nacht” (HesseGreutert Films, Zurich); and “Ceasefire” by the German director Lancelot von Naso (coproduction: DMC Mitte Productions, Jona). Nine years after ist world premiere at the Berlinale, a revised version of Dieter Meier’s long-term project “The Lightmaker” will be screened for the first time in Zurich, out of competition.
Swiss documentary films also rank high at the Zurich Film Festival: both “Buenos dias, seguimos en Guerra” by Anita Blumer and “The Sound After The Storm” by Patrick Soergel and Ryan Fenson-Hood will participate in the International Documentary Film Competition. The renowned Swiss filmmaker Peter Liechti is a jury member of the International Documentary Film Competition. In conjunction with a gala evening, the festival is presenting an exclusive screening of Christian Frei’s documentary film “Space Tourists”; Christian Frei is also one of the guests of this year’s Zurich Master Class.
The Festival has organised an Industry Day for film professionals – from home and abroad –involved in all areas of filmmaking on September 29, also featuring the presentation of the “Young Talent 09” project. Support for the production of the DVD was also provided by SWISS FILMS, the film promotion agency. The DVD presents eight young, talented Swiss actors and actresses.
