World premieres of Swiss films in Montreal

At the 31st Festival des Films du Monde, taking place in Montreal from August 23 – September 3, 2007, six long Swiss films and co-productions will be shown, among them three world premieres. The film “1 Journée” by Jacob Berger (Production: Vega Film, Zurich) will participate in the competition section, after having been screened on the Piazza Grande at the Locarno International Film Festival. As a world premiere, the film “Bersten” by Michael Finger (Production: Les Jeunes Toqués, Lichtensteig) will be presented in the competition section for new filmmakers. The film was made outside of conventional promotion and production structures, and it tells the story of a young farmer, a doctor, and a single mother who, through the blow of fate, lose a loved one.
In the Regards sur les cinémas du monde section, “L’autre moitié” by Rolando Colla, a co-production with Belgium will celebrate its premiere (Production: Peacock Film, Zurich). It is Colla’s third film, and portrays the encounter between two brothers of Maghrebian heritage after a 35-year- long separation, as well as their mutual feeling of suspicion and rivalry. Also part of the Regards sur les cinémas du monde section will be the film “L’écart” by Franz Josef Holzer (Production: Sep & San, Geneva), with Michel Voïta in the main role playing a man who finds himself doubting his identity as he no longer recognizes his wife one day.
The film “Egoiste – Lotti Latrous” by German director Stephan Anspichler (Production: York Street Productions, Hamburg) will be shown in Montreal as a world premiere in the Documentaires du Monde section. The film is dedicated to Lotti Latrous, who was named “Swiss Woman of the Year” in 2004. She had left Switzerland after living a fulfilled life as a mother and wife and dedicated her services to a hospice for AIDS patients on the Ivory Coast. Finally, “Ceci est mon royaume” by Daniel Schweizer (Production: Rita Productions, Geneva), which tells the story of Alsace art thief Stéphane Breitwieser, will also be presented as part of the documentary series.
All Swiss directors as well as Stephan Anspichler and Lotti Latrous will be in attendance at the festival in Montreal.
