Winners will be announced in London on November 14. Frei’s film is now showing in cinemas in numerous countries with France soon to be one of them. It will also be broadcast on television on November 18 (Swiss Television DRS/TSR) and on November 25 (arte).
The Grierson Awards are presented in seven categories. For the first time this year, the category for “Best International Documentary” has been included for a film made from a production base outside the UK. Nominations were announced on October 26 at the Sheffield International Documentary Festival.

Christian Frei introduced his film to the Indonesian public at the Goethe Institute in Jakarta on October 30, 2002. He was accompanied by James Nachtwey whose reports from the slums of this metropolitan area constitute a sequence in the film. Next, Frei is expected at the Osaka European Film Festival on November 22, where the Swiss director will be honored with a reception and an award.

Distributed by Solaris, ten prints of “War Photographer“ will be shown throughout France starting November 25 coinciding with its broadcast on the Franco-German public television channel, arte. On October 28, the French National Library in Paris opened an exhibit showcasing photographs by James Nachtwey. The exhibit will continue through March 2, 2003. Seven prints of the film, circulated by Kool Filmdistribution, are shown throughout Germany and have already sold 150,000 tickets. After running for three consecutive weeks at the renowned movie house “Film Forum” in New York City, three prints of “War Photographer” are currently circulating in the United States.
