Ursula Meier in Palm Springs with “Home”

The French-Belgian-Swiss fiction film “Home” by Ursula Meier will represent Switzerland and the Luxemburg-Swiss film “Réfractaire” by Nicolas Steil the country of Luxemburg at the 21st Palm Springs International Film Festival, which showcases foreign language Oscar submissions as nominees for Best Foreign Language Film. A screening at the festival, held in Southern California from January 5 to 18, 2010, is a major step towards garnering a nomination for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
The 38-year-old director Ursula Meier will travel to Palm Springs to present her feature film debut personally to the festival audience and numerous Academy members. Ursula Meier’s film “Home” has boasted an impressive international festival career since its world premiere in the Critics’ Week section in Cannes 2008, with cinematic releases in over 40 countries. The film was launched several weeks ago in the USA and was very positively received by the press.
Micha Lewinsky was presented as a candidate for a nomination last year with the film “Der Freund“ in Palm Springs and has been invited this year again by the Festival to screen his most recent comedy “Die Standesbeamtin” in the World Cinema Now section. The Luxemburg film “Réfractaire”, also screened in the Awards Buzz section, was coproduced by CAB Productions in Lausanne.
