“Tulpan“ threefoldly awarded in Cannes

With his first fiction film “Tulpan“, which was presented in the section “Un certain regard” in Cannes, Kazakh documentary film maker Sergej Dvortsevoy was honoured straightaway with three awards. In addition to the first prize – the “Prix Un Certain Regard” awarded by a jury presided by Fatih Akin – Sergej Dvortsevoy was honoured with the “Prix de l´ Education Nationale” and with the “Prix de la Jeunesse”.
“Tulpan” tells the story of a young sailor picking up the trail of his long-cherished dream: Asa returns to the Kazakh steppe to his sister Asel and her husband Ondas. He wants to be his own master tending his own flock of sheep. It is a long way he geared himself up for, and he is ready to take on loneliness and austerity. But he can´t cope with it alone, he needs a wife …



Dvortsevoys feature film debut was produced by Cologne-based company Pandora Film, Cobra Film (Zurich), Pallas Film (Halle), Producer´s Company Slovo (Russia), KAZ Export (Kazakhstan) and Filmcontract (Warsaw). This international coproduction was realized as a cooperation between German Broadcasting company ZDF, German Swiss Broadcasting Service (SF) and Arte.
