Swiss presence in Cannes
13.05.2008
On the occasion of the 61st Filmfestival in Cannes, taking place from May 14-25, 2008, the Swiss producers will be – next to the films – the centre of the Swiss presence. Valerie Fischer (Cobra Film, Zurich) has coproduced “Tulpan“ by Kazakh director Sergey Dvortsevoy and Pierre-Alain Meier (Thelma Film, Zurich) “Salt Of This Sea”, a work by Palestinian director Annemarie Jacir. Both films will be presented in the official program of the section “Un certain regard”. The two producers Elena Tatti and Thierry Spicher (Box Productions, Lausanne) will present the movie “Home” by Ursula Meier at the 47. Semaine international de la critique. “Home” will celebrate its world première in Cannes.
Thomas Jörg has produced the documentary “Chrigu” by Jan Gassmann and Christian Ziörjen, which will be introduced in the program of ACID (Agence du cinéma indépendent pour sa diffusion). The Zurich-based production-manager Olivier Zobrist (Lang Film Freienstein; “Der Freund“) is a member of the jury of the international association of the Arthouse cinemas CICAE, which will award the multi-sector “Prix Art et Essai”.
The Geneva-based producer Max Karli (Rita Productions) will participate in the event “Producers on the Move”. With this event, the European Film Promotion will put 22 young producers from all over Europe and their projects into the limelight of Cannes. Max Karli has produced “La vraie vie est ailleurs” by Frédéric Choffat and also the TV-series “Heidi”, which has been developed as a collaboration between TSR, Dune and France 2 and will be broadcasted in eight European television-channels.
