Swiss presence at 51st London Film Festival
11.10.2007
Five Swiss films and co-productions will be shown at the London Film Festival, which counts as the most important festival event in England and takes place from October 17 to November 1, 2007. In the “Cinema Europe” series, the films “Giorni e nuvole” (Co-production: Amka Film, Savosa), and “Vogliamo anche le rose” (Co-production: Ventura Film, Meride) by Swiss directors Silvio Soldini and Alina Marazzi, will be presented. In the same series, and with the director Pierre-Yves Borgeaud and musician Moncef Genoud in attendance, the festival will screen “Retour à Gorée” (CAB Production, Lausanne) on October 27. Following the event, the film will be released in British cinemas (Distribution: Axiom Films).
In the “Experimenta” program, two additional short works by Swiss film artists will be shown: Zurich director Christoph Draeger, who was trained at the Lucerne School of Art and Design, will present his 2005 montage film “Helenés /Apparition of Freedon”, as part of the “Past Imperfect” series. Lausanne and Zurich resident Elodie Pong will introduce her film “Je suis une bombe” in the “The I and the We” program. Her film won first prize at this year’s Videoex festival in Zurich.
Over the course of two weeks, the London Film Festival, which does not include a competition section, will present its viewers fourteen premieres from around the world. Organized by the British Film Institute, the festival is an audience magnet despite its high ticket prizes.
