Swiss Films nominated for Max Ophuels Prize Saarbrücken

Three Swiss films, all of them first-time features, will be screened at the 25th Max Ophuels Prize Film Festival which takes place in Saarbrücken from January 26 – February 1, 2004: two dramas, ”November” by Luki Frieden (Production: Carac Film, Berne) and ”Strähl” by Manuel Flurin Hendry (Production: Dschoint Ventschr, Zurich), and one comedy, ”Verflixt verliebt” by Peter Luisi (Production: Spotlight Media Productions, Zurich). Fifteen feature films from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland will be competing for the Max Ophuels Prize that comes with a distribution grant of 18,000 Euro. Matthias Bruner, head of the Arthouse Commercio cinemas in Zurich, is one of the five jury members.
Switzerland will be represented in the Short Film competition – with a prize sum of 5,000 Euro – with ”Vanya” by Christina Zulauf and ”Scheinheilig” by Korneljia Nevaks. Additional long and short Swiss films are scheduled to screen in the “Spektrum” and “Short Film” sections: ”Little Girl Blue” by Anna Luif (Production: Dschoint Ventschr), ”Mein Name ist Bach” by Dominique de Rivaz (Production: CAB Production, Lausanne), and ”Meyers” by Steven Hayes (Production: HGKZ - Hochschule für Gestaltung, Zurich), all nominees for the Swiss Film Prize as well. Also participating are the Swiss-American film ”The Definition of Insanity” by Frank Matter and the two HGKZ theses films ”Oscar” by Roberto Martinez and ”Pas de deux” by Lawrence Grimm.
