SWISS FILMS 2003 Catalog: Colorful new Swiss films

18.02.2003

In order to promote films produced in Switzerland, the new Swiss Films catalog was released to coincide with the Berlin International Film Festival in Germany. For the first time printed entirely in color, with a new layout and expanded information (e.g., state of production at the beginning of 2003), it showcases latest Swiss film productions to an international audience. As for feature films, a number of interesting releases can be anticipated: “La Diga” by Fulvio Bernasconi, “Mein Name ist Bach, Johann Sebastian Bach” by Dominique de Rivaz, and “Le voyage d’Adrien” by Jean-François Amiguet. Expectations are also high for a strong showing of Swiss documentary films this year: “Accordion Tribe” by Stefan Schwietert, “Das Kamel, der Marabu und das Mädchen” by Ulrike Koch, “Monte Grande” by Franz Reichle, “Namibia Crossing” by Peter Liechti, “Ni perdon ni olvido” by Richard Dindo, “Skinhead Attitude” by Daniel Schweizer, and “Sterben” by Jürg Neuenschwander.
The yearly SWISS FILMS catalog, published by the Swiss Film Center in cooperation with the Swiss Short Film Agency, will be printed in two volumes for the first time: volume one contains feature films for theatrical release (19) and for television (5), co-productions with foreign directors (15), and short and animated films (27). The second volume is entirely dedicated to the documentary genre: 30 films for theatrical release, 13 television productions, and 6 short documentary films and series. The division of the catalog into two volumes representing the major categories of feature and documentary films, allows for directed promotion in film markets and festivals that focus primarily on either of these areas. With its updated graphic layout, this newly conceptualized promotional tool lists films under the following headings: released – films which have been released as of mid-January 2003; completed – films which have been produced but are yet to be released; and films in production. The printed catalog gives descriptions of films in English, while a version in French, German, and English can be found at the Swiss Film Center web site (www.swissfilms.ch).
