Swiss amination films at the Animafest in Zagreb

The 18th World Festival of Animated Films, Animafest, which will run from May 31 until June 5, 2008 in the Croatian city of Zagreb, will present nine Swiss animation films in its program. “Jeu” by Georges Schwizgebel will be featured in the “Grand Competition” whereas the animation films “La main de l`ours” by Marina Rosset and “Tôt ou tard” by Jadwiga Kowalska will be shown in the ”Student Panorama”. “The Cleaner” by Dustin Rees and “Animatou” by Claude Luyet will be presented in the section “Films for Children Competition”.
The short films “Haaf and Me, in: Swing Beijing” by Oliver Aemisegger and “What´s next?” by Claudia Röthlin & Adrian Flückiger are programmed in the “Student Panorama”. The documentary animation film “Le printemps de Sant Ponç” by David Epiney & Eugenia Mumenthaler has been selected for the side event “Anima Docs”, and “Anima” by Gisèle and Nag Ansorge (1977) will be screened in the program “Women in Animation”.
The festival in Zagreb, established in 1972, is the second eldest animation film festival in Europe and – along with the festivals in Annecy, Hiroshima and Ottawa – one of the four biggest international events devoted to animation films. Since 2005 it takes place on an annual basis, alternately for fiction films (uneven years) and short films (even years).
