The Thessaloniki International Film Festival (November 4-13, 2011) is defying the financial crisis in Greece and forging ahead with its 52nd edition featuring some 150 Greek and international films. Four of the six Swiss film productions and coproductions in the festival programme will be presented in the Open Horizons section and are thus in the running with 40 works for the Human Values Award, presented by the Greek parliament and endowed with EUR 7,500.

One of these four feature films is Milagros Mumenthaler's "Abrir puertas y ventanas," which was honoured with the Golden Leopard in Locarno. The other three films are: the Swiss candidate for an Oscar nomination "Summer Games" by Rolando Colla; the film "Corpo celeste" by the young Italian director Alice Rohrwacher, which celebrated its premiere in Cannes (coproduction: Amka Film, Ticino); as well as the film "L'hiver dernier" by American-Belgian John Shank (coproduction: PCT Cinéma & Télévision, Martigny).

Two German-Swiss coproductions will be screened in the Youth Screen section: "Ich bin's Helmut" by Nicolas Steiner and "Yuri Lennon's Landing On Alpha 46" by Anthony Vouardoux. The two short film productions by young Swiss directors have received an extraordinary amount of international attention.
