21.04.2006

Swiss documentary films again have a significant and prominent showing at the Munich International Documentary Film Festival/DOK.FEST, taking place from May 3-11, 2006. In the international competition section, “Gambit” by Sabine Gisiger (Dschoint Ventschr Filmproduktion, Zurich) is in the running, together with 14 other movies, for the Bavarian Television Documentary Film Award, with a prize sum of 14,000 EUR. Among the 26 films featured in the international program are five additional Swiss films: “Angry Monk” by Luc Schaedler, which is winner of this year’s Swiss Film Prize, “EXIT, The Right To Die” by Fernand Melgar (Production: Climage, Lausanne), “The Giant Buddhas” by Christian Frei, “Hippie Masala” by Ulrich Grossenbacher and Damaris Lüthi, as well as “Who was Kafka?” by Richard Dindo.
With six films in attendance, contemporary Swiss filmmaking represents a strong showing at this festival which gives center stage to artistic documentary films. The DOK.FEST Munich is one of the most important platforms for this genre in the German-speaking region of Europe, along with events held in Leipzig and Duisburg. The festival has followed with interest the Swiss documentary filmmaking scene for many years.

“Gambit”, which takes part in the competition and won awards at Locarno, Bolzano, and Duisburg, will be released on DVD on April 28. On the 30th anniversary of the Seveso disaster, July 10th, 2006, it will be broadcast by Swiss television (SF).
