Prize at Max Ophuels Film Festival for Johanna Bantzer – Encouragement Prize for “Verflixt verliebt”

26-year-old Zurich resident Johanna Bantzer, who played the lead role of drug addict Carol in the film “Strähl” by Manuel Flurin Hendry, won the award of 3,000 Euro for best young acting talent at the 25th Max Ophuels Prize Film Festival in Saarbruecken, Germany. The Encouragement Prize of 3,000 Euro, in the category of long features, was bestowed by the international jury and went to Peter Luisi’s film “Verflixt verliebt”.
Born in Zurich in 1978, Johanna Bantzer is currently performing on stage at the Basel Theatre. She received her degree from the Theater Academy Zurich where she trained from 1999 to 2002. At the playhouse Theater an der Sihl, she had roles in “Heimaten” by Alexander Ahwemann and in “Parasiten” by Marius von Mayenburg, among others. After her debut in the short film “Bleibt alles anders” (Everything remains different) by Ralf Etter, she had her first major performance on the movie screen in Manuel Flurin Hendry’s “Strähl”. This film opens in movie theatres in the German part of Switzerland on March 25, 2004 (Distribution: Look Now!).

At the 25th Max Ophuels Prize Film Festival, which ends Sunday, February 1, a total of 10 long and 4 short Swiss films were presented, among them three first-time features in the international competition. Johanna Bantzer and Peter Luisi, as well as several other filmmakers from Switzerland, will participate in the awards ceremony.
