Millennium Companies: The New European Distributors
12.07.2000
New European Presence launched at Locarno
The 20 members of the EFP, European Film Promotion, came together on Wednesday, May 17th in Cannes where it was decided to organise a meeting of the European distribution and sales companies during the 53rd Locarno International Film Festival (2nd - 12th August, 2000)
This new initiative by the EFP, an umbrella organisation for European promotional organisations, will be added to the programme of events taking place at large international European festivals (SHOOTING STARS in Berlin, PRODUCERS ON THE MOVE in Cannes, and NEW EUROPEAN DIRECTORS in Toronto) as well as shared promotional activities at international festivals (Karlovy Vary, Pusan, Punta de Este) and a presence at the American Film Market.
At a time when the architecture of film distribution in Europe is being conceived, as MEDIA PLUS is approaching it, the priority for the distributors of independent films will increasingly be to meet with political authorities of each country and to exchange informations on common strategies for support and co-operation with regard to distribution in European countries. On the initiative of Marco Mueller, Director of the Locarno Film Festival, these meetings will take place in the course of a two day forum during the 53rd Locarno Film Festival.
Representatives of the various European distribution companies, and members of EFP will be at this meeting in Locarno
With the support of the Swiss Film Center of Zurich, also an EFP member, the forum will be organised by the Locarno Festival INDUSTRY OFFICE.
