Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur

Diversity and creativity at Switzerland’s major short film festival

01.11.2024

Nowhere else can you discover so many Swiss short films! The 28th Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur (November 5-10, 2024) will screen approximately 40 works from Switzerland. Twenty-one current short films will be screened in the Swiss Competition, four of which are also scheduled for the International Competition. SWISS FILMS is a partner of the Industry Lab and will present new short film projects to an international industry audience as part of its annual Previews.

Four short film productions will be screened in both the Swiss and the International Competitions: the French-Swiss coproduction MOVEMENT OF STEEL by French ECAL graduate Lou Rambert Preiss; the animation film STORYTELLING by Nils Hedinger; the short documentary film TEENAGE COWBOY by Matteo Gariglio; as well as the Dutch documentary film 102 NARRA by Swiss director Tatjana Fanny, co-directed with Rafael Manuel.

The Swiss Competition showcases works by newcomers as well as works by established filmmakers. The programme includes, among others, the animation film COTTAGE CHEESE by Liina Luomajoki, Lena Metzger, Janina Müller and Alice Kunz, which was created as part of their Animation studies at HSLU; the short documentary film MOM DANCES, by Mégane Brügger, created at École cantonale d'art de Lausanne; the multi-award-winning animation film VOICELESS by Samuel Patthey; as well as the experimental documentaries BIOS BENEATH BLIND by Kim Allamand and PANIC IN NOWHERE by Adrian Flury.

Numerous other short films from Switzerland can be seen in the Sparks and Züri Shorts programmes, as well as at the Swiss Film School Day. As essential short film producers, Switzerland’s film schools are given a platform to present their films to the public and exchange ideas.

Industry Events

As part of the Industry Lab, SWISS FILMS has organised the annual SWISS FILMS Previews, where directors and producers present four short films shortly before their release. This is where industry professionals from distribution, sales and festivals have the exclusive opportunity to discover new Swiss short films.

In collaboration with Unifrance, Wallonie Bruxelles Images and SODEC Québec, SWISS FILMS has invited international festival delegates, as well as Swiss and international filmmakers and producers, to network at the annual Industry Brunch.

The new SWISS FILMS Line-up Shorts, Part 2, offers a curated selection from the current Swiss short film scene on its website.
