“Hiver nomade”: shepherd’s journey on three continents

“Hiver nomade,” the first documentary film by the 43-year-old musician, composer and writer Manuel von Stürler, will celebrate its Australian premiere at the 59^th Sydney Film Festival (June 6-17, 2012). This was preceded by the world premiere in the Forum at the Berlinale, screenings at the international film festivals in San Francisco and Seattle as well as at the Munich International Documentary Film Festival. At the Visions du Réel Festival in Nyon “Hiver nomade” was honoured with the Grand Prix SSA/Suissimage. Audiences everywhere are moved by the ascetic lifestyle and by the perseverance of the two protagonists in the film. With their herd of sheep, shepherds Carole and Pascal embark on their long winter transhumance characterised not only by the cold and snow, but also shaped by industrialisation and urban sprawl.

Initial sales
Film producer Heinz Dill at Louise Productions in Lausanne has already had a glimpse of the initial commercial success abroad: following the cinema release in German-speaking Switzerland (distributor: JMH Distributions) on November 8, 2012, the distribution of “Hiver nomade” in Austria (ThimFilm) is scheduled for the end of 2012. Thereafter, cinema releases in Germany (Neue Visionen Filmverleih) and France (KMBO) are scheduled for January 2013. Negotiations with further distributors in other countries are under way.
