Focus on Swiss animation film productions in Teheran

26.02.2009

No less than 26 Swiss animation films will be screened at the 6th Tehran International Animation Festival, which is held every two years. This year’s festival runs from March 1-5, 2009 in the Iranian capital city. The festival will showcase two major retrospectives which have been organised by the film promotion agency SWISS FILMS: on the one hand, nine films from Studio GDS in Geneva; on the other hand, a homage comprised of eleven films to Swiss luminary Ernest Ansorge. In addition, six Swiss short animation films will participate in the international competition and are thus among a total of 140 films in the running for the Golden Award.
The Iranian audience will have the opportunity to discover the following nine films from Studio GDS: “Les saisons quatre à quatre” (1990) by Daniel Suter; “Le carré de lumière” (1992) by Claude Luyet; and the internationally acclaimed works by Georges Schwizgebel, including “La jeune fille et les nuages” (2000) and “Jeu” (2006). Bei der the homage to Nag Ansorge (and his late wife Gisèle) will feature the films “Les corbeaux” (1967), “Sabbat” (1991), as well as his last work “H.L.M. Quiproquo” (2005), made in collaboration with Dominique Delachaux-Lambert.

The films in the competition include: “The Bellringer” by Dustin Rees; “Die Seilbahn” by Claudius Gentinetta and Frank Braun”; “Animatou”, a collective work headed by Claude Luyet; “Il davos capetel” by Carla Hitz; “La main de l’ours” by Marina Rosset; and “Tôt ou tard” by Jadwiga Kowalska.

This presence in Teheran is the start of a particularly active month of March for Swiss animation filmmaking: following Teheran, programmes featuring Swiss animation films will be screened in Lisbon and in Alès in southern France.
