Five awards for Swiss films at Max Ophuels Prize Festival

Five of the fourteen awards presented at the 32nd Max Opuels Prize Festival in Saarbrücken went to Swiss productions.

Five of the fourteen awards presented at the 32nd Max Opuels Prize Festival in Saarbrücken went to Swiss productions on January 22, 2011. The Audience Prize went to Peter Luisi’s feature film “Der Sandmann”, and the prize for Best Newcomer Actress went to Sarah Horváth, who starred in “Songs Of Love And Hate.” Both prizes are endowed with EUR 3,000 Euro. Cihan Inan’s “180°” received an Honourable Mention in the main category of the Max-Ophuels Prize.

The Interfilm Award, endowed with EUR 2,000, went to Christine Repond's feature film debut "Silberwald," while the Students Jury Award, amounting to EUR 2,500, went to Michael Schaerer's "Stationspiraten." The film "Fliegende Fische müssen ins Meer" by Güzin Kars (Swiss-German coproduction) received the Film Prize from the Saarländischen Ministerpräsidenten, endowed with EUR 5,500. In addition, Maria Müller's feature film "Hüllen" received an Honourable Mention in the Documentary Film competition.

The 32nd edition of the festival opened with the documentary film "Bad Boy Kummer" by Swiss director Miklos Gimes. Five film productions from Switzerland were among the 17 feature films in competition and all of them were successful. Some 38,000 visitors were at this year's festival in Saarbrücken.
