European Film Awards 2008: two Swiss films up for nominations
05.09.2008
Both the fiction film “Home”, a co-production directed by Ursula Meier (Box Productions, Renens), and Silvio Soldini’s “Giorni e nuvole” (Amka Films, Savosa) are on the selection list to be recommended for a nomination for the European Film Awards 2008. This was announced by the European Film Academy (EFA) on September 4. A total of forty-four European films are up for nominations in the various categories this year. Within the next two months, the approximately 1,800 members of the European Film Academy will vote for the nominations in the different award categories. The nominations will then be announced at the Sevilla Film Festival on November 8. The awards will be presented in Copenhagen on December 6.
The film “Home”, a co-production between France, Belgium and Switzerland with Isabelle Huppert and Olivier Gourmet in the leading roles, was proposed for a nomination by the Swiss members of the Film Academy. In the twenty countries with the most EFA members – one of which is Switzerland – a film is voted on for the selection list directly by the members. The Italian-Swiss co-production “Giorni e nuvole”, however, was selected by a committee comprised of EFA board members and invited experts.
Prizes are awarded in the following fifteen categories: “European Film”, “European Director”, “European Actress”, “European Actor”, “European Screenwriter”, “European Cinematographer”, “European Composer”, “European Discovery”, “European Film Academy Prix d’Excellence”, “European Film Academy Lifetime Achievement Award “, “European Achievement in World Cinema”, “European Film Academy Critics Award – Prix FIPRESCI”, “European Film Academy Documentary – Prix ARTE”, “European Film Academy Short Film – Prix UIP” and the “People’s Choice Award for Best European Film”.
