26.08.2003

On July 31, 2003, Stefan Haupt’s documentary film “Elisabeth Kübler-Ross – Facing Death” had its debut in German movie theatres (Distribution: Salzgeber & Co.). Twelve copies are now circulating in seven cities (five of them alone in Berlin) and have already sold 20,000 tickets. The portrait of the famous researcher of death and dying will also be reaching movie theatres in Austria before the end of 2003 (Polyfilm Distribution). Distribution rights for the United States have been acquired by First Run Ikarus which is one of the few American companies interested in foreign films and regularly distributes Swiss films (“War Photographer”, “Venuz Boyz”, and “The Tube” in 2002).
The success story of “Elisabeth Kübler-Ross – Facing Death” began in movie theatres in the German speaking part of Switzerland where 70,000 viewers have already seen the film. It received international attention in April and May at documentary film festivals in Tel Aviv, Israel, and Munich, Germany, where it was screened as part of the festival competition. In July, it was invited to the 3rd Filmfest Stuttgart-Ludwigsburg, Germany, before it was shown in Locarno, Switzerland as part of the “Appellations Suisse” program. There, two showings were sold out, and it became the darling of this year’s audience in this particular section. At the 33rd International Film Festival Molodist, which takes place at the end of October in Kiev, Ukraine, “Elisabeth Kübler-Ross” will likely receive recognition as well, given Stefan Haupt won last year’s competition with his fiction film “Utopia Blues”.
