Christian Frei, Pippilotti Rist and two Swiss coproductions in Sundance

19.01.2010

Christian Frei’s documentary film “Space Tourists” is in the running for the Grand Jury Prize at the 26th Sundance Film Festival, which runs in Park City from January 21-31, 2010. The Swiss artist Pippilotti Rist has been invited to Sundance to screen her film “Pepperminta” in the New Frontier series. Two Swiss coproductions will also participate in the competition: the documentary film “Fix Me” by the Palestinian director Raed Andoni (coproduction: Akka Films, Geneva) will be presented in the World Cinema Documentary Competition; and the short animation film “Le petit dragon” by the French director Bruno Collet (coproduction: Nadasdy Film, Geneva) will be screened in the competition for short animation films.
The film festival was founded in 1981 by actor and director Robert Redford as a forum for independent film productions. It ranks among the most important international film festivals, together with Cannes, Berlin and Venice.

Christian Frei was already present in Sundance with his previous film “The Giant Buddhas” in 2006. After celebrating its international premiere in the Joris Ivens Competition at the International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam, “Space Tourists” will receive further recognition on the prestigious stage in Sundance. Jan Rofekamp from Films Transit International in Canada is responsible for the world distribution of the film.

Pipilotti Rist will present her feature film debut “Pepperminta”, which premiered in Venice, as well as her video installation “Lobe of the Lung” (2009) in Sundance.

Switzerland is present in Sundance for the first time again since 2007. At that time, Andrea Staka’s “Das Fräulein” was screened in the Spectrum section.
