Director Elena López Riera and her producers accepted the César trophy in Paris last Friday for LAS NOVIAS DEL SUR (LES FIANCÉES DU SUD).
The film by the Spanish-Swiss director celebrated its world premiere in 2024 at the Semaine de la Critique in Cannes, where it won the “Queer Palm” for Best Short Film. LAS NOVIAS DEL SUR was nominated for the Spanish Goyas and is in the running for the Swiss Film Award for Best Short Film.
LAS NOVIAS DEL SUR is a Spanish-Swiss-French coproduction by Alina film in Geneva (Eugenia Mumenthaler, David Epiney) with SUICAfilms Valencia and Les Films du Worso in Paris. Elena López Riera's first feature-length film EL AGUA (2022) also celebrated its world premiere in Cannes and went on to enjoy a successful festival career.
The French film awards César are presented annually by the French film academy “Académie des César”. With Claude Barras - for his animated film SAUVAGES - and the actress Souheila Yacoub, two more Swiss talents were nominated for a César.
Our warmest congratulations!
