The film festival in La Rochelle has extended an invitation to Georges Schwizgebel with ten of his animated films. In addition, two Swiss productions which celebrated their premieres in Cannes will also be screened at this French lighthouse festival featuring filmmaking from yesterday and today.

The 41st La Rochelle International Film Festival (June 28 - July 8, 2013) will showcase ten films by the Swiss animation film master Georges Schwizgebel in a programme called “Cinéma d’animation: la peinture animée” and also feature him in a series with such eminent animation filmmakers as Canada’s Caroline Leaf, France’s Florence Miailhe and Italy’s Gianluigi Toccafondo. Schwizgebel’s films were selected by the festival in cooperation with SWISS FILMS, the promotion agency.

Schwizgebel’s animation films
The films by Schwizgebel showcased in La Rochelle range from early works such as “78 Tours” (1985) to his most recent film “1/3/10” (2013), which demands freedom for Jafar Panahi and all imprisoned Iranian filmmakers. The Genevese cineaste will also personally present the following works at the festival: “L'année du daim” (1995); “La jeune fille et les nuages” (2000); and “L’homme sans ombre” (2004).

Films from Cannes
Screened at the festival in the “Ici et Ailleurs” section are two films which celebrated their premieres in the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes in May: Kaveh Bakhtiari will present his documentary film “L'escale” in La Rochelle and Marie-Elsa Sgualdo her short film “Man kann nicht alles auf einmal tun, aber man kann alles auf einmal lassen.” The documentary film “Dans un jardin je suis entré” by Israeli director Avi Mograbi, coproduced by Dschoint Ventschr in Zurich, rounds off the Swiss presence at this important festival.
