Born in 1967 in Frunze, Kyrgyzstan, he lives today in Switzerland, and works as a film producer. In 1993 he graduated from university. In 1996 obtained a licentiate degree in Philosophy and Political Science. As a journalist and political observer, known for criticizing authoritarian regimes in his reports and documentaries, he was forced to leave Kyrgyzstan in 2007 following an assassination attempt. In 2021 he founded Kairat Birimkulov Production. He primarily dedicates his efforts to the development of independent cinema in Kyrgyzstan, focusing on human rights issues. His latest production KURAK (2025) portrays the true position of women in society in Central Asian countries, based on a documentary narrative.
