Plinio Bachmann
Screenwriter
Born 1969. Graduated with a degree in German Studies. From 2009 to 2011 he was chief dramaturge at the Burgtheater in Vienna and has recently been appointed head of theatre for Zurich’s Department of Culture. Bachmann worked initially as a freelance journalist (Das Magazin, DU, among others) and participated for two years in Peter Zumthor’s concept for “Klangkörper Schweiz,” the Swiss pavilion for the World Exhibition in Hannover. Apart from several theatre plays, he has developed literature projects as well as conceptual work for Swiss television. After serving as interim head of the Institute for Critical Theory (ITH) at the Zurich University of the Arts, he was the curator and project manager for medium-sized and large cultural projects for Martin Heller for three years. Together with the Danish film director Thomas Vinterberg, Bachmann developed the theatre piece “Die Kommune“ for the Burgtheater in 2011 and lectured at the Institute for Theatre, Film and Media Sciences at the University of Vienna. «Der Verdingbub» is his first screenplay to have been produced as a film.
