“Vitus” reaches a quarter million viewers in Germany and Austria

By the end of this week “Vitus” – a drama about a highly gifted child – will have reached 250'000 admissions in Germany and Austria, where it was released ten weeks ago on December 21, 2006. Schwarz-Weiss Filmverleih (Bonn) brought the movie to the screens in Germany, 61 copies are being shown at the moment, accounting for over 230'000 admissions. Filmladen (Vienna) totalled 17'700 viewers for Austria, 7 theatres are still screening “Vitus”. The success story started a year ago in the german-speaking part of Switzerland and now continues internationally. On January 24, 2007 “Vitus” was awarded the Swiss Film Prize 2007.
The success of “Vitus” in the german-speaking countries is a good omen for the upcoming releases in over 25 countries and territories. Especially the North American release by Sony Classics and the Japanese release by Tokyo Theatres will be followed closely. “Vitus” attracted international attention when proposed and shortlisted for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar 2007 and by winning awards at festivals in Los Angeles, Chicago, Rome and Strasbourg.
Since February 28, 2007 “Vitus” is also playing in theatres in french-speaking Switzerland.
