“Virgin Tales” and “Vol spécial” screened in competition in Washington
Swiss film directors Mirjam von Arx and Fernand Melgar will present their documentary films in Washington and are in the running for a Sterling Award.

Two of the eleven documentary films screened in the International Competition at the 10th Silverdocs Documentary Film Festival in Washington (June 18-24, 2012) are from Switzerland: von Arx's “Virgin Tales” and Melgar’s “Vol spécial.” The film “Virgin Tales” recently celebrated its premiere at the Visions du Réel Festival in Nyon and attracted a great deal of interest in the media with its theatrical release in Switzerland. The film “Vol spécial” can already boast a long, successful festival career and has been honoured with the “Quartz 2012” for Best Documentary Film, among others. Two multi-award-winning short documentary film productions round off the Swiss presence in: The 40-minute documentary film “Retour à Mandima" by Robert-Jan Lacombe and the 15- minute “L'ambassadeur & moi” by Jan Czarlewski.
Launching pad for an Academy Award
The Silverdocs Festival ranks among the most important festivals for the documentary film genre in the United States. It is considered to be the launching pad for an Academy Award nomination in the documentary film category.
Sterling Award for “Die Frau mit den 5 Elefanten”
In 2010 Vadim Jendreyko’s film “Die Frau mit den 5 Elefanten” was honoured with a Sterling Award in the World Feature Competition in Washington.
