Two Swiss nominations for FIRST STEPS Award (Berlin)

The short fiction films “Nachglühen” by Lisa Blatter and “Auf der Strecke” by Reto Caffi have been nominated for the FIRST STEPS Award: “Nachglühen” in the category of “Short Film up to 25 Minutes”; and “Auf der Strecke” in the “Feature Film up to 60 Minutes” category. There are five films in the running in each category. The award ceremony will take place at the Theater am Potsdamer Platz in Berlin on August 26, 2008.
The two films will also be screened at the Locarno International Film Festival. Blattler’s 19-minute graduation film from the Zurich University of the Arts – “Nachglühen” – will celebrate its premiere in Locarno in the “Leopards of Tomorrow“ section. Caffi’s graduation film from the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne – “Auf der Strecke” – has already been honoured with renowned prizes and will be screened in the “Appellations Suisse” series in Locarno.
The FIRST STEPS Awards are devoted to talented newcomers and were presented for the first time in 2000. The awards, which amount to a total of 72,000 euros, will be presented to the best graduation films from German-speaking film schools at the gala event on August 28. Until now, eight Swiss film productions have received nominations, and three films have been honoured with a FIRST STEPS Award: “Letzte Hilfe” by Gabriela Hondt (2001), “Wackelkontakt” by Ralph Etter (2004) and “Floh !” by Christine Wiederkehr (2005).
