Three-country meeting for filmmakers held in Stresa
17.06.2009
Filmmakers from Italy, French-speaking Belgium and Switzerland will meet at the 4th Incontri Cinematografici Stresa, which will take place on the Italian shores of Lake Maggiore (June 17-21,2009). Seven Swiss fiction film productions and coproductions will be presented in evening screenings to industry professionals and the audience in Stresa. The event, organised in partnership with SWISS FILMS, will open with Christoph Schaub’s episodic film “Happy New Year”.
After three editions focusing on the bilateral relations between Italian and Swiss filmmakers, “Incontri” will open up to yet another European country: Francophonic Belgium. Four of the seven Swiss films selected for the programme illustrate this transnational collaboration: Ursula Meier’s “Home”, which experienced tremendous international success, was a coproduction with France and Belgium; the film “Le sel de la mer” by Palestinian filmmaker Annemarie Jacir was a collaboration between producers from Belgium, France, Palestine, Holland, Spain and Switzerland; the film “Masángeles”, by the Uruguayan director Beatriz Flores Silva, who studied and lives in Belgium, was initiated by production firms from Belgium, Cuba, Uruguay, Chile and Switzerland; and the film “Tandoori Love” by Oliver Paulus, which was produced by firms from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The benefits and challenges of transnational collaboration will be presented in panel discussions, ranging from script development (International Book Forum) to multinational production firms (Tarantula Film France, Belgium, Luxemburg and Switzerland), Belgium’s tax shelter and the specific needs of the European animation film industry.
Two other Swiss fiction film productions will also be screened in the “Incontri” programme in Stresa: “Un autre homme” by Lionel Baier and “Segreti e sorelle” by Francesco Jost, who will present his film together with the leading actress Anita Kravos. Five Swiss producers, as well as representatives from the Swiss Federal Office of Culture and the Italian Swiss Broadcasting Service RTSI, will participate in the panel discussions for audiovisual industry professionals, which run from June 19-21.
