The winner of the Quartz Swiss Film Prize 2010 for Best Short Film, “Las Pelotas” by Chris Niemeyer, was honoured with the Audience Award in the Fiction and Documentary International Competition at the 7th VIS Vienna Independent Shorts (May 27 - June 2, 2010). The award is endowed with EUR 1,000 and was presented last night in Vienna. In addition, it is in competition at the 38th Huesca Film Festival (June 4-12), together with three other Swiss short film productions. The film “Las Pelotas” is currently being screened as a supporting film to “Cœur Animal” in cinemas and is also on tour with the Short Film Night in the German-speaking region of Switzerland.

Apart from "Las Pelotas", two other films are participating in the Short Film Competition at the festival in Huesca: "Le deuil de la cigogne joyeuse" by Eileen Hofer and "Schonzeit" by Irene Ledermann. All three films are thus in the running for the Danzante Award, endowed with EUR 10,000. The documentary film "Ja ja, nein nein" by Peter Volkart and Ulrich Schaffner will be screened in the Short Documentary Film Competition.

Four other Swiss film productions or coproductions will be presented together with Séverine Cornamusaz's fiction film "Cœur animal" in the Spanish festival's parallel sections. The festival is recognised by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, meaning the winners of the Danzante Award may qualify for a nomination in the Short Films category of the Oscars. The festival in Huesca ranks among the most important festivals in Spain for the short film genre. Awards amounting to a total of EUR 51,000 are presented in the festival's four competitions.
