Switzerland at Valladolid International Film Festival
11.10.2004
At the 49th Valladolid International Film Festival (October 22-30, 2004), Switzerland is the festival’s official guest country. In the international competition, “Tout un hiver sans feu/All Winter without Fire” by Greg Zglinksi (CAB Productions, Lausanne) will be vying for the Golden Spike. Zglinski’s film has already received two awards at this year’s Venice film festival. Competing for Best Short Film with a prize sum of 9,000 Euro, is “L’homme sans ombre” (The man without a shadow) by Georges Schwizgebel, while “Ni olvido ni perdón” (Neither forget nor forgive) by Richard Dindo will be screened in the international competition “Tiempo de Historia” with a total prize sum of 12,000 Euro.
With Switzerland as a focus (Belgium was the official guest country in 2003, Poland in 2002), 15 features and fifteen short films produced between the years 1995-2002 will make up the showcase, ranging from “For Ever Mozart” (Jean-Luc Godard, 1996) to “Utopia Blues” (Stefan Haupt, 2001), and from “Gambling, Gods and LSD” (Peter Mettler, 2002) to “Hotel Belgrad” (Andrea Staka, 1998). Two Swiss film classics, “Journey of Hope” (Xavier Koller, 1990) and “The Boat is Full” (Markus Imhoof, 1981), will also be shown.
Anna Luif, Richard Dindo, Fosco Dubini, Georges Schwizgebel, and Denis Rabaglia will introduce their films in person. The festival will release a detailed catalogue about guest country Switzerland.
For the first time, Switzerland is given an important presence at one of the biggest Spanish film festivals. The invitation is a clear indication of the currently growing international reputation of Swiss filmmaking.
