19.08.2008
Three Swiss short films will participate in the international competition at the 14th Palm Springs International ShortFest, which takes place on the west coast of the U.S.A. from August 21-27 2008: the animation film “Die Seilbahn” by Claudius Gentinetta and Frank Braun; the fiction film “Fathom” by Vladimir Jedlicka; and the animated documentary film “Le printemps de Sant Ponç” by David Epiney and Eugenia Mumenthaler. A total of 320 films from 40 countries will be presented in Palm Springs, with awards amounting to a total of 86,000 dollars.
This sister event to the Palm Springs International Film Festival, held in January, screens the selected short films in programs according to themes: the film “Die Seilbahn” will be presented in the “Astonishing Animation” program; the film “Fathom” in the “Obsessions” program; and “Le printemps de Sant Ponç” in the “Art Attack” program. The director Vladimir Jedlicka and illustrator Rico Grünenfelder, who collaborated on the film “Die Seilbahn”, will present their films in Palm Springs personally.
With 50 film programs and a well-attended market, the Palm Springs International ShortFest is one of the most important platforms for short films in North America. Moreover, the premiered films qualify for an Academy Award nomination.
