Swiss short film “René” wins prize in Finland

10.03.2008

Tobias Nölle’s short film “René” continues on its international road to success in the international competition at the 38th Tampere Film Festival in Finland. The film was honoured with one of the four main prizes – the “Fiction Award”, amounting to 1,500 euros – at the festival, which came to a close on March 9, 2008.
The five-member jury summarized its motivation for choosing the film “René” for the Fiction Award as follows: “With dark humour and great attention to detail, the director tells a disturbing story of a lonely man slipping into the margins of society. This important film explores our fears of alienation in an increasingly fast-paced urban environment.”

Winning the award in Tampere, the most important festival in Northern Europe for the genre of short film, also serves to reconfirm the international reputation of short films from Switzerland. While “René” had already won the “Youth Jury Prize” at the International Short Film Festival in Clermont-Ferrand in February 2008, it was honoured two awards in 2007: the Grand Prize at the International Short Film Festival Winterthur and the Pardino d’Oro in Locarno. In addition, the 29-minute short film was nominated for the Swiss Film Prize 2008.

As of April 4, the film can be seen in Switzerland on the Short Film Night Tour, organized by SWISS FILMS.
