Swiss short film “Icebergs” in New York

21.04.2008

Germinal Roaux’s short fiction film “Icebergs” (CAB Productions, Lausanne) is among the 37 films selected to participate in the “Short Narrative Competition” at the prestigious TriBeCa Film Festival in New York. The film director will travel to New York to present his film personally at the 7th edition of this festival, which runs from April 23 to May 4, 2008.
The black-and-white film, which depicts the confrontation between Rosa – a teenager from a suburb in Lausanne - and a young man she suspects of having stolen her cell phone, will celebrate its American premiere in New York. The film has already been honoured with two major awards in Switzerland: the “Prix du meilleur espoir suisse” in Locarno and the SSA/Suissimage “New Generation Prize” in Solothurn. The film is scheduled to be screened in the section called “Deal With It” in New York and is thus in the running for the prizes awarded in the festival’s three short film sections, amounting to a total of 15,000 dollars.

The TriBeCa Film Festival, founded in 2002 by Robert de Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff, offers European film productions an ideal platform for making a mark on the American market. The festival was initiated in a response to the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the consequent loss of vitality in this Lower Manhattan neighbourhood.
