Swiss short film „Auf der Strecke“ nominated for the Student Academy Award

The Academy of Motion Picture Art and Sciences has announced the nominations for the “Honorary Foreign Film Award” on the occasion of the 35th Annual Student Academy Awards. With “Auf der Strecke” (“On The Line”) written by Reto Caffi, a Swiss-German coproduction is among the five finalists for the best foreign student film. The ceremony of the Student Academy Awards will take place on June 7, 2008 in Beverly Hills.
“On The Line” is the graduate film by Swiss director Reto Caffi and a coproduction of the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne (KMH) with Blush Films (Zurich) and the German Swiss Broadcasting Service (SF). In this thirty-minute short film with Roeland Wiesnekker as the leading actor, a department store security guard is confronted with his bad conscience: he witnessed a supposed rival being attacked in a train, but instead of intervening he got off the train.
With the nomination for the Student Academy Award, the film of the 36-year-old Bernese continues it´s impressive international career. After receiving the Swiss Film Prize Quarz 2008, it won the Grand Prix at the short film festival in Clermont-Ferrand and the “Best Student” award at the Aspen Shortsfest, USA.
In total, 45 productions from 29 countries have been submitted for the best foreign student film. The Academy of Motion Picture Art and Sciences will announce the winners in mid-May. On June 7, 2008, the Student Academy Award will be awarded within the frame of a solemn ceremony in Beverly Hills.
In 2004, a Swiss film was last nominated for the “Honorary Film Award”, “Pas de deux”, by Lawrence Grimm (Production HGK Zurich). In 2001, Swiss director Michael Schaerer won the “Student Academy Award” in the category “Alternative Fiction” with his short film “Warmth”.
