Swiss presence in Havana rounds off 2005 festival season
01.12.2005
At the 27th Festival del Nuovo Cine Latinoamericano, taking place from December 6-16 in Havana, Cuba, seven Swiss films will be shown. As was done last year, the festival is organizing a five-film “Muestra de cine Suizo” event together with SWISS FILMS, DFA, and trigon-films. The documentary film “Unser America” (Our America) by Kristina Konrad (Production: Maximage, Zurich) will be screened as part of the competition of foreign films on Latin America, while the Argentinian-Brazilian-Swiss co-production “La dignidad de los nadies” (The Dignity of the Nobodies) by Fernando Solanas (Co-production: Thelma Films, Zurich) will be shown in the Latin-American competition.
As the last big event of the 2005 festival season, Switzerland is again represented with a selection of films that have had impressive showings at previous festivals. “One Long Winter Without Fire” by Greg Zglinski – awarded the 2005 Swiss Film Prize and Swiss nomination for the 2005 Oscars – “Stupid Boy” by Lionel Baier, and “When the Right One Comes Along” by Oliver Paulus and Stefan Hillebrand, are three feature films which have received much attention abroad over the past two years. At this year’s “Muestra de cine Suizo,” different facets of Swiss documentary filmmaking are featured with “Donde está Sara Gomez” (Where is Sara Gomez?) by Alessandra Müller (Production: Amka Film, Savosa) – which was shown at the 2005 Nyon am Festival Visions du réel, and the biographical movie “Irene Schweizer” by Gitta Gsell (Production: Reckfilm, Zurich) – shown at an international festival for the first time. Present in Havana will be a Swiss delegation with actor Pierre Chatagny (Stupid Boy), and directors Alessandra Müller and Kristina Konrad.
