Two short documentary film productions from Switzerland will be screened in competition at the Tampere Film Festival, the oldest and most important short film festival in Finland. Three further films will be presented in parallel programmes.
Sixty-five short films from 38 countries will be in the running for the Grand Prix in the International Competition at the 43rd Tampere Film Festival (March 6-10, 2013). The winner qualifies as a submission for an Oscar nomination. One of the works screened in the International Competition is the short film “Entre les passes” by Myriam Rachmuth, who is presently preparing her graduation film at the ECAL University of Art and Design in Lausanne. “Entre les passes” offers viewers insight into the daily life of two Rumanian prostitutes in Lausanne. The film celebrated its world premiere last November at the Documentary Film Festival IDFA in Amsterdam.
Life of a Finnish minority group, captured by a Genevese
The documentary film “Kyrkogårdsö” by Genevese director Joakim Chardonnens is a Swiss-Finnish coproduction among the 34 works screened in the National Competition. The director, who completed studies in cinematography in Belgium, captures everyday life on a remote Finnish island. In the film he lets the unprocessed images speak for themselves, without additional commentary. The film was already screened last year at festivals in Nyon, Lisbon and Marseille, among others.
Oldest festival in Scandinavia
The Tampere Film Festival was founded in 1969 and is the oldest and most important festival in Scandinavia for short film productions. It is accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) and presents over 600 films of all genres every year. This year 4,500 entries were submitted for the International Competition. Rolando Colla’s “Einspruch VI” and Jan Czarlewski’s “L'ambassadeur & moi” will be screened in the EFA Short Matters! – Short Films from Europe programme. It showcases film productions nominated for the European Film Award in the Short Film category. The animation film “Danny Boy” (2010) by Polish director Marek Skrobecki, coproduced with Switzerland, rounds off the Swiss presence in Tampere.
