Swiss presence at the European documentary film meeting in Paris

04.11.2007

The “Rencontres Européennes du Cinéma Documentaire”, at which documentary filmmakers’ associations from thirteen European countries converged, was held in Paris from December 4 – 8, 2007. The event also featured a program comprised of 16 films. While Fernand Melgar’s “EXIT: le droit de mourir” (production: Climage, Lausanne) represented Switzerland, both the Italian-Swiss co-production “Feltrinelli” by Alessandro Rossetto (co-production: Dschoint Ventschr, Zurich) and the film “Un’ora sola ti vorrei” by Swiss director Alina Marazzi, who lives in Milan, clearly exemplify how Swiss documentary filmmaking has already collaborated within the European network.
Representatives of directors’ and documentary filmmakers’ associations from 13 European countries – including the Swiss Filmmakers Association (ARF/FDS) – participated in this meeting, at which documentary filmmaking and its financing was closely analyzed. The event was organized by Addoc, the French Documentary Filmmakers’ Association, which aims to preserve diversity in independent documentary filmmaking in an increasingly challenging artistic and economic context and to develop increased collaboration on a European level.

The film program – “Un tour d’Europe du Doc” – provided a panorama of European documentary cinema. The screening of the films was held in the cinemas of the Goethe Institut, the Centre Wallonie-Bruxelles and the Centre culturel suisse in Paris. As Switzerland’s promotion agency, SWISS FILMS collaborated as an event partner.
