Swiss participation at Festival International du Film Francophone in Namur, Belgium

From September 25 to October 4, 2004, eight Swiss films will be shown in various sections at the International Festival of Francophone Film. The festival takes place for the 19th time in the Belgian province capital of Namur, with the “Golden Bayards” as well as other prizes worth a total of 50,000 Euro being awarded. In the international documentary film competition, “Kint, de l’autre côté, ” (Kint, from the other side) a film by Olga Bailif will be shown. It has previously been recognized at the 2004 Festival Visions du réel in Nyon, Switzerland. In the short film competition, the animated film “L’homme sans ombre” (The man without shadow) by Georges Schwizgebel will be screened, along with “Promis juré” (Sworn promise) by Pauline Karli Gygax and Tanoa Despland. “Our Music” by Jean-Luc Godard will be shown in Namur as a Belgian pre-premiere.
Outside of the competition, two documentary films, “Le Passeur” (The smuggler) by Raphaëlle Aellig Régnier and short film “Des tas de choses” (Piles of things) by Germinal Roaux, as well as the two short films “3ème sous-sol” (3rd level down) by Olivier Girard and “Joyeux Noël Félix” (Merry Christmas, Felix) by Izabela Rieben and Sami Ben Youssef will be presented. They are among the films by a new generation of filmmakers from the Western and French-speaking part of Switzerland, which had previously been featured at the Locarno Film Festival.
In addition, the first francophone co-production meeting will be held in Namur this year, where ten producers from francophone countries will participate. They will be introducing their projects to experts from the areas of script, production, and distribution. Swiss producer Pierre-Alan Meier who works out of Zurich but is originally from the Western part of Switzerland, is taking part in the event as a Swiss expert.
