Swiss films shine at short film festival in Brazil

Five Swiss film productions ranging from 9 to 40 minutes have been invited to the festival in Sao Paulo, Brazil. One of these films is “Os vivos tambem choram,” which had already attracted attention in Cannes.

Five short film productions from Switzerland will be screened at the 23rd São Paulo International Short Film Festival (August 23-31, 2012). The 30-minute fiction film “Os vivos tambem choram” by Basil Da Cunha, which received an Honourable Mention in Cannes, in on the programmes, as well as Robert-Jan Lacombe’s 40-minute documentary film “Retour à Mandima,” which has already won two awards.

In the running for the Audience Award are the two 15-minute fiction films “Demain c'est loin” by Thomas Szczepanski and “On The Beach” by Marie-Elsa Sgualdo, who will present her work personally at the festival together with the film’s producer, Henri Guareschi. The 9-minute fiction film “Au ras du sol” by Filippo Demarchi, produced at ECAL in Lausanne, rounds off the strong Swiss presence in Brazil.

The festival in Sao Paulo in August ranks among the most important platforms for the short film genre in Brazil, together with the festival in Rio de Janeiro in November.
